The emails make various statements. These include that the recipient has won “the lump sum of £500,000 GBP in the planet49 lottery draws conducted last night!” and “numbers that were chosen by our computer ballot system on your behalf” .
The emails are said to have been sent by various named individuals. They sometimes describe themselves as 'Fiduciary Agents'.
The emails are sent from various addresses, and the addresses generally end with '@live.com' eg '[xyz1]@live.com'.
The emails refer to various delivery/courier companies. Planet49 does not believe that these companies exist. However, their names are similar to the names of real delivery/courier companies and they appear to have been chosen by those sending the 'scam' emails in a further attempt to confuse those receiving the emails. For the avoidance of doubt, Planet49 has no reason whatsoever to believe that the real delivery companies are in any way associated with the scam emails or are even aware of them.
2. PLANET49'S POSITION ON THE 'SCAM' EMAILS
PLANET49 appreciates that recipients of the emails may want more information about the 'scam' and we therefore provide the the following information:
THE 'SCAM' EMAILS DO NOT COME FROM PLANET49 OR FROM ANYONE CONNECTED WITH PLANET49. WE SUGGEST THAT THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO IGNORE THEM!!
PLANET49 contacts our winners personally via Telephone for any sum or prize worth more than 50GBP. It does NOT send emails of the type we have described here.
PLANET49 does not automatically select numbers in our customer’s behalf.
PLANET 49 would never request a payment of any type in order to claim a prize.
All winning information from PLANET49 would be sent from an email address that ends with @planet49.com or @planet49.co.uk
PLANET49 is in the process of taking legal action against the unknown person(s) behind this scam.
Should you receive an email that you think could be a scam, please forward it to . Additionally, should you have any questions about this or similar issues concerning the use of PLANET49's company name or logos please contact us in the same way.
